New Albion Ale hits Northeast Ohio market this week

newalbion4

New Albion Ale is making its return this week. The beer -- considered the first microbrew made in the United States -- will be available on tap at Platform Beer Co. in Cleveland, 101 Bottles of Beer on the Wall in Kent and the 16 Heinen's grocery stores that have a growler fill station.

Lest you forgot, the New Albion Brewing Co. was launched by Jack McAuliffe in 1976 in Sonoma, Calif., and it's considered the country's first microbrewery. McAuliffe's daughter, Renee DeLuca, who lives in the Cleveland area, is reviving the brand and partnered with Platform to produce the beer.

"I am thrilled to see my father's original craft beer recipe back in people's glasses -- and proud to be partnering with Platform Beer for this venture," she said in an email.

DeLuca will pour the beer and share the New Albion story from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Heinen's in Bainbridge and from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Heinen's in Pepper Pike.

The beer is expected to go on draft at Heinen's on Friday, and will be delivered to 101 Bottles on Tuesday. It's expected to be available at Platform on Monday or Tuesday.
