Maumee Bay adds Glass City, Summer Stinger to bottle lineup

Maumee Bay Brewing Co. is adding two beers to its packaged lineup. The Toledo production brewery and brewpub is putting Glass City Pale Ale and a new seasonal, Summer Stinger, in 12-ounce bottles this week.

They should hit the market over the next week.

Glass City is one of the brewery’s original recipes and has been one of Maumee Bay’s more popular beers, brewery manager Craig Kerr said. But when the brewery started packaging, it decided to release higher gravity beers such as Total Eclipse Breakfast Sout and Amarillo Brillo first, he said.

Now that the production brewery is “cranking” – as Kerr put it – Maumee Bay is finally adding Glass City in bottles. The beer is 5 percent alcohol by volume.

Summer Stinger is a honey and lemon wheat beer. It’s 4.8 percent. The seasonal brew will replace the Five Hole Winter Wheat.

Meanwhile, Maumee Bay is planning a special release to help celebrate its 20th anniversary in November. The brewery has placed Total Eclipse in bourbon barrels in January and will release 22-ounce bombers of brew.

“As much as Total Eclipse is a home run, that’s a walk-off home run,” Kerr said about the bourbon barrel-aged version.
