Blank Slate, Oskar Blues set to release collaboration beer

blank slate

Blank Slate Brewing Co. and Oskar Blues Brewery will release their collaboration beer called Cincy 3-Way Porter during Cincinnati Beer Week, which runs from Feb. 13-22.

The beer will make its debut at the Oskar Blues booth at the Cincy Winter Beer Fest at the Duke Energy Convention Center. The beer then will be available on draft at bars and restaurants throughout the city.

The porter -- made at Oskar Blues -- is 7 percent alcohol by volume and features barley "doused with cumin, coriander, allspice and cinnamon, then slow-toked in the smoker at the original Oskar Blues Grill & Brew in Lyons, Colo.," according to a news release issued today. (Feb. 2) The breweries said it will pair well with Cincinnati chili.

“During the recipe development process, we came up with the idea of smoking the malt with spices you find in Cincinnati chili — as opposed to adding the spices directly to the beer," Oskar Blues brewer and Ohio native Jason Buehler said in a statement. "This makes the beer a great companion to one of my favorite late night snacks.”

The draft-only beer will be distributed throughout Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky by Stagnaro Distributing, and will be available for a limited time at the Oskar Blues Brewery taprooms in Colorado and North Carolina.

“Brewing with the team at Oskar Blues was great," Blank Slate owner/brewer Scott LaFollette said in the release. "Whether you are from a small brewery or a big one, there is always common ground to discuss and enjoy when it comes to beer."
